Legion Terminators; Modinsson’s Pack

Lead my the indomitable Kettril Modinsson, pack leader of Jarl Redblade’s Wolf Guard, and second to Thegn Einar. The Varagyr of Sepp Company are blood thirsty and relentless in their prosecution of their foes, even my Astartes’ standards. Even by sixth legion standards. They carry the reputation of their liege, embodying the epitaph of ‘headsmen’.

Armoured in variant Tartaros pattern tactical dreadnought armour, and sporting a variety of weapons, the Terminators of Sepp Company are capable of taking on armour and infantry alike.

WIP Legion Tartaros Terminator Squad

Following on from the earlier post about developing the Terminator Command Squad and the decision to elevate the intended standard bearer to be Legion Herald, more terminators were required to fill out the squad for its new role.

Four further Terminators were created using the same conversion methodology as before, including custom axes and some uniquely converted combi-flamers.

Einar ‘the thrice slain’ Sepp Company Herald

Einherjar to Hvarl Redblade and leader of the Jarl’s Wolf Guard, Einar is a warrior of kindred spirit to his Lord. Where some Jarl’s pick advisers to counter them and provide  contrast in their counsel, Redblade chose Einar for his ferocity and blood thirsty nature that echos his own.

Einar’s deed-name as earned during the Wheel of Fire, where he was believed dead and lost three times and yet returned. The first, defeated in combat by a mighty Greenskin and left for dead, only to be found breathing when his body was recovered by the flesh-makers. The second, his stormbird shot down and lost with all hands, but later accounted for in the thick of the fighting on the planet’s surface. The third, crushed below the foot of an Ork war machine in final days of the war, surviving his injuries and recovering over several years of the Priest’s administrations.

Tartaros Command Squad WIP

Progress has continued on Hvarl’s command squad. The four veteran warriors complete and ready for painting.

The idea was to make each warrior unique, and subtly converted in the style of Hvarl Redblade, making them and him feel like a cohesive unit. While the main part of this was the armour conversions (covered in the last post on these models), the follow up was the axes.

The unique axe style are actually plasticard conversions, made as a gift by very talented friend and Forge World’s weapon-smith; Will Hayes (thanks again bud, they’re amazing!).

The axes really finish the models.

Thegn Eskil Borg, Varagyr

Known among his fellow astartes for his ill temper and fearsome demeanor, Eskil Borg is Thegn of Jarl Skunnr’s Varagyr and champion of Sesc Company. But, more than that, Eskil Borg is the Jarl’s naysayer and truth talker, keeping the Lord of Sesc Company honest.

Sporting a matched pair of master-crafted lightning claws, the Thegn reaps a bloody toll among the Routs enemies whenever he is called upon to fight. His prowess and skill in combat matched only by the Jarl himself within the ranks of Sesc Company.

Varagyr, ‘The Wolf Guard’

The Varagyr are the chosen warriors of Leman Russ, hand-picked from his own Great Company to form his personal guard and close companions in war and council. To have attained such a rank and position, each has distinguished himself in battle many times over, and each has forged his own saga worth the telling.

More so than any other of his sons they are the wolves of his pack, marked by the great beast pelt which adorns their armour, and to adopt this honour means more than simply to walk in the Wolf King’s shadow and lay down their lives for him if needs be, it means something much more. It means that at least for a time they have foregone the chance to lead their brothers in battle, to watch while others strike, to stand fast and not to seek out the glory of battle save when their lord commands. When such coldly withheld fury is unleashed however, it falls like a thunderbolt against the foe.

Armoured in mighty suits of Cataphractii pattern tactical dreadnought armour the Varagyr are nigh unstoppable force in battle. Wielding might chain axes with teeth forged from the very bones and rock of Fenris, the fury of their uncompromising assaults has become legend.

Design note: the weapons arms have been re-organised and poses changed on these Varagyr to differentiate them from the other pack.

‘Best Loyalist Army’ – Legion of Peterborough

In June of last year the Legion of Peterborough held a fantastic Heresy event, ‘Blood & Steel: The Battle of Laernan Prime’ which consisted of a number of small centurion based games.

It was humbling and pleasing to get the peer vote from my fellow hobbyists for the ‘Best Loyalist Army’

(re-sculpting all that Varagyr fur was clearly worth the effort)
