Land’s Raider Class Battle Tank(s), MkIIb Variant

The legions made extensive use of Land’s formidable mainline battle tank, favoured by all of the Astartes. By the outbreak of the heresy several chassis variants and patterns of the ubiquitous warmachine, the rout favouring the MkIIb variant for it’s refined design and the powerful phobos pattern assault ramp.

MkIIb ‘Phobos’ Pattern Raider Battle Tank

A ground assault boat, blunt in its application, the Phobos pattern Raider Tank is designed to protect it’s cargo of assault warriors in the most brutal of warzones. Favoured by the Jarls of Fenris for it’s ferocity, more than one Phobos has been garbed in the Morkai’s black shroud and enlisted to deliver those Deathsworn brothers into the heart of battle.

MkIIb ‘Proteus’ Pattern Raider Battle Tank

A rarely seen variant of the Raider Battle Tank, with the proteus configuration more commonly associated with the MkI chassis and the MkII chassis more commonly sporting the Phobos Assault Ramp. The MkIIb ‘Proteus’ does however see battle under the banner of the 6th Legion, a heavily armed and armoured tanks with a transport capacity. Used my squads and thegns to deliver kill teams, seeker squads and hunters to key objectives.

Murgan Wulfricsson and ‘Morkai’s Blades’ Seeker Squad

Murgan Wulfricsson, known as the the Night-spear, is a pack leader of calculated ferocity and honed martial prowess. As the leader of the the murder-pack Morkai’s Blades, Wulfricsson leads his Seekers in pursuit of enemy commanders, officers and key savants who pose an ongoing threat to the All Father’s Imperium. They truely are slayers of kings.

Legion Seeker Squads were formed from those Legionaries who were chosen on pure merit as the best marksmen in their Legion. Comprised of a specialised force of Space Marines, it was the job of a Seeker Squad strike force to identify and take out an enemy’s command structure, its warlords, officers, priests, demagogues, whatever form their commanders took, and slay them with a well-placed bolt round while the chaos of battle raged around them. An irony for Rout is that the squads were first utilised by the Twentieth Legion, adopted by the Vlka Fenryka as a key strategy to overwhelm their enemy’s force.

Aurvandil Manisson ‘the lunar wolf’, Caster of Runes

A rune priest of unpredictable temperament and prone to fits of insane unintelligible chanting in a language unknown to the minds of mortal men, Manisson is however a talented scryer and soothsayer, known for his un-waveringly accurate predictions and forewarning riddles.

Manisson is known as the ‘Lunar Wolf’ among the Rout for two reasons, firstly because of his close ties with the Sons of Horus during the Great Crusade, serving alongside their Legion in the wars of compliance, and secondly as he has been found on more than one occasion out on the snows of Asaheim, ill dressed for the weather and bellowing at the Moon. It is Manisson’s firm belief that the Moon harbours a dark spirit that stalks his sleep and troubles his dreams.

Thegn Brodya Iron-Bane, Claw Leader

Thegn and Claw Leader in Hvarl Red-Blade’s Great Company, Brodya Iron-Bane is a headstrong warrior and the very epitome of ferocity in war. A tank hunter through and through the Thegn is known for near reckless charges against enemy armour and walkers alike. It is this ceaseless pursuit of armoured foes that earned Brodya his deed name of ‘Iron-Bane’.

A chosen warrior of Hvarl Red-Blade’s war-counsel, Brodya is an example of balance in conflicting views, his violent and impulsive outbursts are the polar opposite of Thegn Sveric Vyardsson’s measured advice.

Forge World Preview: Varagyr Terminator & Future Kits

Had the absolute pleasure of attending the Forge World Studio Open Day today, great to catch up with the designers and see some of the fantastic new kits coming out… it’s a shame the space wolves offerings aren’t among them.

Had a lengthy chat with Rob MacFarlane the sculpter and designer for the Space Wolves Legion, he has confirmed the following releases:

  • Varagyr Terminators (full kit of 5)
  • Deathsworn (full kit of 5)
  • Praetor
  • Hvarl Red-Blade
  • Grey Slayer Upgrade kits, potentially five different kits with mixed weapon options.

No mention of Priests.

Rob had a singular Varagyr Terminator with him today:

This is a 3D print of a model which is essentially complete. I personally am not keen. I think the model has a lot of very strong positive elements, love the lower grieves in the style of Russ’ and the furs mimic those i have done on my Varagyr conversions, love the top knot and the concept of the knot-work… However the head position, and model posture is terrible, the coarseness of the detailing, particularly the hair, fur and knot-work is not to my tastes and reminds me of 80’s comic barbarians.

The concept art for the Space Wolves Terminators is rich and plentiful:

I hope that the final models will look better than this, but i am not hopeful, likewise i hope that the Deathsworn, Hvarl and other kits are to a finer quality.

Hvarl Red-Blade’s Huscarls, Varagyr Command.

Hvarl Red-Blade treads the battlefield in the company of his Varagyr elite, terminator amour clad Huscarls of formidable reputation, head takers and bloodied warriors all.

Rethel, Birgun, Ulric, Bjornsson and Osiric all born of Fenris and proven champions of the rout, bloody and unyielding sagas shadow their footsteps, footsteps that bring with them the promise of unrelenting sanction and death to the All Farther’s foes. If Hvarl Red-Blade’s saga is one of fear and overkill his Huscarl’s each boast deeds as bloody and uncompromising.

The Tartaros Terminators of Hvarl’s Command Squad have been equipped with a selection of weapons including a Power Fist, Chain Fist, 3 Lightning Claws, Plasma Blaster and 4 Combi-Bolters. The Terminators have added pelts, trinkets and fetishes and a more lavish use of bronze and brass to make them stand out against the Legion Terminator Squads.
